I had the no sound problem with the Soundmax drivers. I downloaded the drivers from Asus for my motherboard (P5P800) and installed them (Version 5.12.1.5150). I only had the digital output working. I went to the Options, Other. I disabled AC3 SPDIF and PCM SPDIF. That enabled the analog outputs of the Soundmax onboard audio.
I hope this helps out others with the same problem. :)
